Biomass boiler scheme for schools

Ghyllside, a primary school in Kendal is about to become a leading eco-light in Cumbria, thanks to the Renewable Heat Incentives (RHI) and Barden Energy.

Barden Energy is proud to be supplying the forward thinking school with a state-of-the-art new Biomass Boiler and fuel for years to come. Barden’s Scheme for Schools is a flexible plan that offers schools creative financial solutions so that the payments for the Renewable Energy Boiler are spread out.

The 150kW Herz Biomass Boiler will be installed in a small a boiler house, a bit like a glorified shed. The installation will be backed up by a fuel supply and maintenance contract, in compliance with the Green Energy Supply Certification. The whole school will be heated by the boiler which will run on locally-sourced wood. The school will be saving money,  reducing its carbon footprint and will have paid back the investment in less than 7 years. The fuel saving is equivalent to driving 26 times around the world in an average car!

The boiler house is fitted with a viewing gallery therefore creating an educational opportunity for the children and the community. This ties in with the National Curriculum Key Stage 1 and 2 and the ‘It’s Only Natural’ guidelines. The guidelines were set up to make sure that young people understand the issues and the technologies involved in the question of how we meet our energy needs in the future. The issues of climate change and finite resources of fossil fuels are set to become the major issues of their generation.

Unfortunately, other schools in Cumbria will miss out on the current Renewable Heat Incentives if they don’t act quickly, potentially making it more difficult for them to find the capital to make the switch. web domain . If you know of a school that would benefit from saving money by taking advantage of the RHI and changing to green energy, do let them know about Barden’s School Scheme so they don’t miss the boat.
